This checklist is adapted from Auditware's W3OSC standards.

Individual Account Settings

Important: Use Signal! Chats on Signal are secured with the gold standard of end-to-end encryption and privacy features. Signal is the best place to have truly anonymous chats.

If you don't use Signal, you should at least create an account with your phone number and lock it so that you cannot be impersonated to others via SIM swap attacks.

Note: You must be on the phone app to see all of these settings.

• Account Settings:
  • Settings > Account > Registration Lock > Enable
  • Settings > Linked Devices > Review the list
  • Settings > Calls > Always relay calls (if privacy is desired)
  • Settings > Privacy > Who can see my number > Nobody
  • Settings > Privacy > Who can find me by number > Nobody
  • Settings > Privacy > Disappearing Messages > Enabled
    • The timer is up to you, but 1 week is recommended
  • Settings > Privacy > Hide Screen in App Switcher > Enabled
  • Settings > Privacy > Screen Lock > Enabled
    • The timeout period is up to you, but 1 minute is recommended
  • Settings > Privacy > Payments Lock > Enabled
  • Settings > Privacy > Advanced > Always Relay Calls > Enabled (privacy)
    • This leaks your IP address to contacts via calls when disabled
